About
"Can you take a look at this before I send it out?" colleagues at various jobs have asked me.
"Content marketing is story-telling," rings true for me. Coworkers and managers often designate me as the "story-writer."
Throughout my 20 year career, I've juggled multiple projects, summarized a lot of financial outcomes, and met countless deadlines.
I've moved many projects from start to finish and interpreted tons of complex budget data.
However, I find the most exciting part of any project is…
Creating captivating copy
Connecting with clients in a meaningful way
Many moons ago…
I was a case manager at a service agency located in the Bronx, NY. At times, I found the work to be draining. But, I never tired of talking with participants and hearing their colorful stories. I interviewed hundreds of people from all walks of life.
"You always provide a ton of detail," the director used to tell me about my case notes.
Then I moved to a small firm in Manhattan that provided financial services to nonprofits. While there, I managed a suite of accounts. On each account that I handled, I developed a deep knowledge of the client’s operations and business structure. In a way, this was my first taste of working in brand storytelling. I enjoyed learning the client’s voice and bringing their concepts into words.
So what attracted me to B2B ed tech and marketing writing?
I've spent the last decade working in the heart of the largest public school system in the country. I’ve managed a $300 million dollar portfolio (and that includes a lot of funding for tech!). Over the years, I've seen first-hand how technology gets integrated into a school setting. I've watched a small computer science initiative grow from the beginning stages, to a pilot, to a full-scale program impacting hundreds of students… and I find it fascinating! Also, I’ve talked to thought leaders, reading and math coaches, operations staff, and program managers. I’ve reviewed proposals for new funding and evaluated program outcomes. Buzzy debates in education policy, student achievement, student learning, and innovation are always popping up.
Tech in education often bubbles to the top.
Wow! I’m in a unique position. I get to combine my flair for writing, with my experience in education, project management, and client services to deliver compelling content. This is as sweet as cotton candy!
When I pull myself away from writing and a hectic schedule, I like to visit different tea houses sprinkled around New York City. Sipping on exotic teas in a charming setting is a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Just the thought of those warm scones lathered in clotted-cream gets my taste buds buzzing!
